Richard Mille opened its largest boutique in the world this month, in New York City. Located at 46 East 57th Street, the 4,200-square-foot flagship becomes the ninth Richard Mille boutique in the Americas. A two-story oasis of sleek contemporary design, bathed in abundant natural light, the boutique represents a new architectural standard for the luxury brand. 

The Petrovsky Passage hosted a gala evening dedicated to the 280th anniversary of Jaquet Droz. In the setting of a fantasy garden, the anniversary collection of the haute horlogerie masterpieces was presented to the guests.

Because it was reserved for a secret elite, the Breitling Emergency has always been something of a secret itself. And yet there’s no real logic to this injustice. Back in 1988, a NATO officer suggested to Breitling’s CEO: “Couldn’t we have a transmitter that can be worn on the wrist in the event of a plane crash or shipwreck? Like a watch?” Ernest Schneider took him at his word: “In a watch?” And that became the brief for the Emergency watch. It became the world’s first watch to contain a transmitter that enabled its wearer to be located by satellite. Was this perhaps the world’s first connected watch?

The sportier a watch, the more likely it is to use some form of luminescent material. Modern SuperLuminova® coatings are typically found in their most copious amounts on diver’s watches, where they help divers to read the time and the all-important dive-time bezel in the murky depths as well as at night. More all-round watches usually have more subtle applications of luminescent material, reserving it for an insert for the hands or hour markers, for example.

In keeping with the general approach of the Blue Editions collection, the Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Bucherer Blue Editions gives pride of place to the colour blue. This is even the first Blancpain model to be almost entirely blue. A colour familiar to the brand from Le Brassus, which has been deeply involved in the marine world since the 1950s, having launched the first diving watch, the Fifty Fathoms. The blue of the ocean has also dominated Blancpain’s multi-year financial support for environmental causes as part of the “Blancpain Ocean Commitment” programme.

36 or 38? 40, 42, or even 46 mm? When a new watch model is launched, one essential question is: what should its diameter be? The answer is simple. It depends! There are many different factors that come into play. One of the most important is current trends – and they tend to run in three or four-year cycles. So, what are these factors, where are modern trends heading, and how do these elements influence contemporary watch design?

On the 3rd of October 2018 the House of Breguet inaugurates a brand new boutique in Moscow, located within close proximity to the Kremlin, in the prestigious shopping mall GUM. It is in this boutique, under the high arches of the historical building, that Breguet chose to set up a dedicated exhibition area to display a curated edit from the Paris Museum collection.

In 2016, Frederique Constant created another grand complication: the manufacture Perpetual Calendar. In honor of the brand’s 30 years anniversary, the Perpetual Calendar Tourbillon Manufacture represents the outcome of all the knowhow the Brand gathered during the development of its in-house manufacture movements resulting in this grand complication. This model exists in four version: the first one is in stainless-steel, the second is in rose gold plated stainless-steel, the third one is in stainless-steel with a skeleton dial (88 pieces each) and the last one, limited to 30 pieces, is in rose gold with a skeleton dial. The limited 30 pieces edition reflects on the 30 years of the manufacture’s history.

The Rallye des Légendes Richard Mille set off on 11 September for 3 days of driving in south-eastern France. A total of 25 crown jewels of automotive manufacturing from around the world convened for this exceptional rally. Richard Mille signed on once again to bring this event to life alongside Peter Auto. 

It’s not an easy subject. If you look at its definition it is the part of expression that is left to the freedom of the individual, is not directly imposed by standards, rules of use or language. It is, therefore, intimately linked to a person and speaks of emotion, image, projection or intention.

Thirty minutes to cover 30 years is not very long, but on 25 September, the big anniversary evening, it was all the time available to talk to the media about Frédérique Constant’s current trajectory. The event was hosted in Paris by Peter Stas, company founder and CEO, accompanied by Niels Eggerding who, since 1 February 2018, has been Peter Stas’s Managing Director and right-hand man.
